These 10 VR mods will give you a headache

Some games get official VR add-ons or re-tools, while others are “pancake” games stuck in 2D. Fortunately, the PC modding community is not known to let the opportunity pass. Here are 10 games modified to take advantage of VR headsets.

1 Alien: Isolation

Apart from being a classic game that is probably the biggest sci-fi franchise ever, Alien: Isolation it’s just solid handwork. I keep hearing the unmistakable sounds of the xenomorph coming down from the air barrel in my dreams. Even years later, the graphics still hold up, the gameplay is great, and the Alien AI is still very scary. One more reason to try this one in VR!

Aptly named after the Nostromo computer from the original An alien movie, MotherVR is a way to immerse you in a new realm of horror. Just playing this game on the computer is enough to make your palms sweat, your knees weak, and your arms heavy. I tried this a few times in VR and my heart was about to jump out of my chest.

2 Cyberpunk 2077

For me, this is one of the greatest games that has ever graced a computer. I still remember waiting anxiously for the countdown to be over so I could jump right into the neon-drenched Night City. I didn’t finish the game until years later when it was finally fixed, but it always calls me back to its world of pride, glory and a beautiful story. So, why not VR?

At first, I didn’t think it was possible, which means, I thought my PC might explode. However, with powerful enough hardware (I use an RTX 4080 Super) anyone can see the wonders and landscapes. Cyberpunk 2077 with their eyes.

Hailed as one of the best open worlds ever made, it’s worth checking out Luke Ross’ VR version to see your favorite Night City locations while listening to the soundtrack sweet, sweet. Talk about real sense!

3 Minecraft

You’d expect a game with the strongest mod support ever to include one for VR, and you’d be right. Who hasn’t dreamed of stepping into their shoes Minecraft humanity and seeing all their creatures before and to scale? Vivecraft, the VR version for SteamVR, is here to deliver just that!

After more than ten years of playing Minecraft on a computer, traversing space can be terrifying. It may take some time to get used to playing this favorite game in a new way, but rest assured that time is of the essence.

The best part of Vivecraft mod is that, for the most part, it is compatible with other mods and modpacks. This allows you to explore the possibilities with a new game from a completely new perspective!

4 The Resident Evil Series

He has not yet played other official VR modes for the seventh and eighth games and Citizen Evil 4fans weren’t content to let other games in the franchise stay on the flat screen. Github user “praydog” has created a version of REFramework that allows VR in many series, such as new remakes, which looks amazing! If horror is your cup of tea, then these mods will please.

Entering the shoes of different opponents, you can experience the world of Resident Evil close to personal, in a way that a third-person POV cannot be.

After playing on a computer for so long, it’s easy to forget how immersive VR is. When you see the dark, gloomy places behind this franchise with your own eyes, hear the eerie atmosphere and the howling of the undead, the fear really takes hold.

5 Half Life 2

Phenomenal VR exclusive title Half Life: Alyx gave modders the inspiration to add VR support to other games in the franchise. Now, you can play the cult classic Half Life 2 than ever before and continue to ignore the dire lack of a sequel. What’s not to love?

Available on Steam, Half-Life 2 VR Mod is well polished and fun to play, like Half Life: Alyx. There’s something really cool about being able to see a game from your childhood in VR, especially to play it that way! It’s important that you return to City 17 to wrestle the coward away with vengeance—this time, with your own hands.

6 Valheim

Every now and then, my friend’s group and I go back to Valheimenjoy shooting again in this serious survival game. I never thought it would be good for VR, but how wrong I was! The excellent VR mod VHVR makes this Viking-style game seem built for virtual reality.

As with any build-inspired game, being able to stand in front of your creatures is simply more fun, and Valheim it offers great opportunities. Surprisingly, some aspects of the game, such as combat, resource gathering, and even sailing feel natural in VR. This might be the one game on the list that I will never go back to for pancakes!

7 Foreign Countries

This award-winning timeloop game with endless reviews had to finally have a VR mod. The game itself is a unique experience, and the mod only wants to enhance it where it can. NomaiVR brings full motion control support, among many fun moments that will leave you amazed.

As with all things, Foreign Countries it can only be played the first time once, so why not try a more serious version? The juxtaposition of being an observer in the real world while being a player exploring the mystery of a mysterious place is impossible to surpass, in my opinion. You will definitely be telling your friends about this.

8 Deep Rock Galactic

Another popular game, Deep Rock Galactic, finally has a VR mod that really shakes things up! If Minecraft in VR wasn’t scratching the mining itch, so this will get the job done. VRG Mod puts you (and your friends) back in the minivan, ready to run, shoot and blast your way to victory!

Traversing the dark caves suddenly becomes more intense, and the thrill of being infested with bugs is greatly increased. Also, mining feels very satisfying, and the more time you spend in a VR mod, the more likely you’ll wonder, “why wasn’t this made for VR in the first place?” Don’t take my word for it – start digging!

9 The Jedi Knight Sports

When I was young, I used to play Jedi Knight sports and longing for the day I can indeed step into the shoes of the Jedi. If that sounds good to you, let me be the first to tell you: the wait is over! Look no further than JKXR, the VR version of Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy and Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast.

This mod puts you in control as someone who uses guns, who uses the force, and allows you to discover the stories of Kyle Katarn and ordinary Jedi through their eyes. I appreciate these classic games that paved the way for the ones we play today, so I welcome any opportunity to revisit them through a new lens.

Enjoy complete freedom of movement with any lighting option as well as intuitive power management. Let the energy flow through your headphones!

10 Firewatch

The “walking sim” of space from 2016 is one part of beautiful views and one part of emotional stories, so it is not surprising that the VR mod has finally arrived. If you want a break from the many titles mentioned earlier, this might be the game for you.

Two Forks VR, created by a fan, offers a new level of immersion in the amazing story behind it. Firewatch. I would even suggest that it’s the only way to have the game now (and yes, I’m biased). If you’ve ever loved forests, sunsets, or wolves, you’ll find all three and more in this absolute gem. Also, fire observation towers are cool, so take this opportunity to visit one in virtual reality!

Have I convinced you? Now is the right time to enter the VR market, with very cool headsets that have been released recently, such as the Meta Quest 3S or the new Vive Focus Vision.
